Monday's class should be a good one. Remember that we are moving to 52-A12!
We'll start with Meet the Faculty. I'll be bringing a couple of colleagues, who will introduce themselves and talk a little about what classes they teach. Feel free to ask questions [like "What's your favorite element?", "What was your favorite undergraduate class?", "What do you like to do when you're not teaching?", etc].
Afterwards we'll switch over to a PowerPoint presentation during which I will attempt to outline the branches of chemistry [so you'll better understand what you're getting into] and introduce you to some interesting subspecialties you probably didn't know existed.
And now, please answer these new questions:
a) What has been some of your favorite things about the first week of school?
b) Any surprises so far (in terms of classes, instructors, living arrangements, etc)?

a) my favorite things about the first week of school were meeting new people and exploring the campus and the city. i love it here, and i am so excited for the next 4+ years!
b)the only surprise i can think of is how much studying i have to do! i know everyone said you have to study alot more in college than in high school, but the entirity of it wasn't evident until i started doing all my work! :-P
a) I love all of the classes that you can take and how college isn't just about education it is about having fun too. Like taking a hiphop class to taking a stained glass class.
b) That you don't always get along with your roommate and the classes seem to be easier than I thought they were.
My favorite thing about the first week of school was that I didn't have to be in class for seven straight hours. I had time to take a nap or go to the gym or do whatever!
I was surprised by how long it takes to do laundry. I knew it would be annoying but I did not think it would take FOREVER!!!!!
I would say that my favorite things about the first week is that i get to live on my won now, meeting new people, and not having to be in class as long as in highschool.
It really surprises me because you really have to do a lot more stuff on your own time. in high school you were in class a lot so you have more time with the teacher and stuff like that but now teachers give you the basics and you have to do more on your own.
a) What has been some of your favorite things about the first week of school?
I love having control of my schedule and being in charge of my own work and errands. I love my classes and professors and being surrounded by people who love to learn.
b) Any surprises so far (in terms of classes, instructors, living arrangements, etc)?
Not really, I actually thought professors were going to be more intimidating than mine are.
My favorite thing about the first week was how much time I had in the day. In high school class takes a majority of your day when here im only in classes maybe 3 or 4 hours.
I was surprised at how easy its been to find classes and to learn the campus. I thought I would have a lot more trouble learning the buildings and the area.
My favorite part about the first week was having a messed up schedule with only 9 units, stressing out because i couldn't get classes, talking to my adviser, and finally taking Wildlife Conservation Biology and Intermediate Bowling. O and my roommates are LEGIT!!!!!!!
Biggest surprise, laundry...was up till 4 a.m. doing it and other things.......
favorite things about the first week of school... Well going to college classes for the first time was pretty cool. And I started riding for the Wheelmen which was also cool.
Only surprise... Honestly, I haven't really been surprised by anything so far.
1) Favorite thing about the first week of school?
The independence! No set bed time, get up time, go to class time, eat lunch time..
it's great.
2) surprises? how HARD it gets walking up hill here! it doesnt even look that bad but my calves know what's up
a) I think the best part of college is having the freedom to chose a late class that doesn't make you get up at the crack of dawn
b) Id say things that surprise me are how much work there is and how people have time to do anything else.
And I thought more would be covered in class...
a) What has been some of your favorite things about the first week of school?
I love living on my own and being completely independent. I love living in the dorms and having friends nearby all the time, and I like that you are in class less and can choose what time your classes are.
b) Any surprises so far (in terms of classes, instructors, living arrangements, etc)?
So far, college classes have not been as difficult as I expected. I know its only been a week and I'm sure they will get more challenging, but right now they aren't so bad.
1. i think my favorite part of the week was aimlessly walking around trying to find my classes. if anyone stopped to look they would immediately know that i had no clue where i was going.
2. i was surprised to find that its much easier to procrastinate when you have a block schedule. ive never had that before and its easy not to do your homework, even though that makes it harder on yourself later
a) the first week of school I enjoyed meeting new people and getting settled into all my classes. and watching The Office with half of Muir Hall on Thursday.
b) im a little surprised at the amount of free time i have even though i feel like i'm studying enough. (maybe not?)
a) My favorite thing is being able to relax most of the day and having class for a little each day, and not having to wake up early for class.
b) it suprised me how much i have to walk. Also the amount of studying.
a)My favorite things about the first week of school include meeting new people (inside and outside of classes), seeing the downtown area and joining clubs.
b)Surprises: that some people live in quadruple rooms?! and walking takes a lot of energy.....
a) I love the independence, and really like how we spend less time in class and have the work to do on our own. I also really enjoy meeting so many new people!
b) I'm a little surprised with how quickly I became familiar with the campus. I thought it would take awhile to learn where the different buildings are, but it seems like if I've been there once, I remember where it is.
a) My favorite thing about the first week of school was i had no classes in the morning and could sleep in. Also meeting new people was really cool and looking at all the places around campus was very interesting.
b) What surprised me was how easily i could get lost trying to find my classes. I didn't show up to one class on time which seems really sad. Im also surprised with how much time i have on my own during the day and i don't know what to do with it
a)My favorite thing about the first week was the sudden freedom. It's so nice not to have to ask permission to do stuff. And my schedule is exactly how i want it, not how the school says it should be.
b) It really surprises me how early everything closes. all the dining halls are closed by 7 on a saturday night? really?
a) I have really enjoyed jumping right into the materials in class. It forces me to remember the things I already know, and to buckle down and get used to the more rigorous college routine.
b) Not any surprises so far, except that all the restaurants on campus close way to early.
a) i love being on my own and the people. i like that i can leave lab when i'm done and that i don't have to wait for a bell, and not being in class for seven hours straight.
b) i'm a little surprised at the studying i have to do, but at the same time, i thought that college would be so overwhelming that i would be unable to keep up. so far, so good.
a) I really liked meeting so many people in my first week here -- so many nice people, that is.
b) I was surprised at how easy the transition into college has been! (It's not easy, but easier that I thought!)
a) my favorite thing about the first week was my chem lab. Shore lectures are fun but the practical application of what you are learning is where the real fun lies.
b) there have been no real surprises so far. It has been pretty much what I expected. Study hard and work hard and you will pass the class.
a) My favorite thing is the fact that I'm not in class for seven hours a day. Teachers make their points and move on, and class usually seems to fly by.
b) Along with not being in class, I'm totally surprised at how little free time I have. And surprised at how few choices we have for food on the weekends. And how badly I want a fridge...
a)my favorite thing about the first week of school is that everything is new so there's so much to explore around campus
b)what's surprising is how everything takes a ten minute walk to get to
a) the campus is awesome, the city is pretty, the people are great, and i like my classes :D
b) my instructors are amusing
